How PST works

PST, Pacific Standard Time, is UTC-8. It applies on the US and Canadian west coast in winter. In summer the same region moves to PDT, Pacific Daylight Time, which is UTC-7. People often write "PST" all year, so a time labelled PST in July usually means whatever the clocks in Los Angeles or Vancouver show that day.

In the United States, daylight saving starts on the second Sunday of March and ends on the first Sunday of November. In 2026 that is March 8 to November 1. The choice above defaults to Pacific Time, which switches between PST and PDT for the date you enter. Pick "PST only" if you really mean the fixed UTC-8 offset.

The common pitfall is the weeks when the US and other countries are out of step. Europe changes its clocks in late March and late October, so for a few weeks the gap between Pacific and Europe is an hour different from usual. Always convert using the date of the event, not today's date.
