Converting PST to EST

Pacific time to Eastern time is the most searched pair in North America, and it is a simple one: Eastern is ahead of Pacific, and both coasts move their clocks on the same days, so the gap stays the same all year apart from a few hours in the early morning of the two changeover Sundays.

Most people who search "PST" mean the local clock time on the US west coast. That clock is on PST (UTC-8) in winter and PDT (UTC-7) in summer; in 2026 PDT runs from March 8 until clocks go back on November 1. Most people who search "EST" mean the local clock time on the US east coast. That clock is on EST (UTC-5) in winter and EDT (UTC-4) in summer; in 2026 EDT runs from March 8 until clocks go back on November 1. The converter above follows the real clock for the date you pick, so you do not have to remember which half of the year it is. The live line and the table use the same rules.

That makes 9am on the west coast noon on the east coast, and a 9am to 5pm Pacific working day lands as noon to 8pm Eastern. For a call between both coasts the usable window is short, which is why it pays to check the exact slot instead of guessing.

The table below maps every hour of the day you pick. Use the date box when the call is in another week: the converter reads the rules for that date.

FAQ

PST to EST: questions people ask

How many hours is PST behind EST?

Three hours: when it is 9:00 in Los Angeles it is 12:00 in New York. Both coasts change their clocks on the same dates, so the difference does not move during the year.

If a meeting says 3pm PST in July, what does it mean?

In July the west coast is on PDT, so the sender almost always means 3pm Pacific local time. The converter treats it as Pacific local time and shows 6pm in New York.

Does this page work for Canada too?

Yes. Vancouver follows Pacific time and Toronto follows Eastern time, with the same rules.
