GMT to EST converter

GMT is the same clock reading as UTC. Eastern time sits behind it by 5 hours in winter and 4 hours in summer, so a 15:00 GMT start is 10:00 in New York in the winter months and 11:00 when the east coast is on EDT.

This page treats GMT as UTC+0, which never changes. The United Kingdom is on BST (UTC+1) between March 29 and October 25, 2026, so London clock time in summer is not GMT. Most people who search "EST" mean the local clock time on the US east coast. That clock is on EST (UTC-5) in winter and EDT (UTC-4) in summer; in 2026 EDT runs from March 8 until clocks go back on November 1. The converter above follows the real clock for the date you pick, so you do not have to remember which half of the year it is. The live line and the table use the same rules.

The common trap is London. The United Kingdom uses GMT in winter and BST in summer, so a UK time quoted in summer is not GMT. If the source says "9am London time" in July, the right starting point is BST, which is one hour ahead of GMT.

There are also short stretches when the usual five hour gap between London and New York shrinks to four, because the US moves its clocks earlier in March and later in the autumn than the UK does.
