How CET works

CET, Central European Time, is UTC+1. It is used in countries such as Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Poland in winter. In summer these countries move to CEST, Central European Summer Time, which is UTC+2. Many schedules still write "CET" all year, meaning the local time in central Europe on that day.

EU clocks go forward on the last Sunday of March and back on the last Sunday of October. In 2026 that is March 29 to October 25. The default choice above follows those dates for the day you enter. Choose "CET only" if the source means the fixed UTC+1 offset.

A common mistake is mixing up the changeover dates with the US, which moves earlier in March and later in the autumn. During those weeks the gap between Central Europe and the US east or west coast is one hour smaller or larger than usual. Convert with the date of the event, and check the day: a CET evening is often the same afternoon in the Americas and the next morning in Asia.
